The first week of classes starts at the IES Center in die Mitte. The German language classes are taught by German instructors from the IES: beginner-level GERM 105, intermediate-level GERM 205, or advanced-level GERM 305. GERM 254, the theater class, is taught by Sigi Leonhard, and in this class, students read plays and watch their stage performances in theaters across Berlin. Students taking HIST 248 explore the history from the contemporary Bundesrepublik Deutschland to the far ancient ages through seminars and site visits with David Tompkins. Students also have the option to choose GERM 175/275, an independent study project on a topic of their own in English or German respectively. Each student is taking one German language class plus two of the other options.
