Jetzt (am Mittwoch) sind Wir alle in dem Zug nach Prag. Auf geht’s!
On Sunday night, as the election results were coming out, Sigi’s class went to the Berliner Ensemble for Bertolt Brecht’s der kaukasische Kreidekreis. It was an interesting performance with electric guitar, fake blood, screaming, and dramatic acting. After reading the play and discussing during class it was a great experience to see live theater in Berlin!
There are many weekly and bi-weekly meetups hosted by local Berliners who hope to help German learners practice by talking with native speakers and other learners.
Here are some links where you’ll find more information:
Just join a meetup, grab a coffee, meet new friends, and practice speaking German.

The first week of classes starts at the IES Center in die Mitte. The German language classes are taught by German instructors from the IES: beginner-level GERM 105, intermediate-level GERM 205, or advanced-level GERM 305. GERM 254, the theater class, is taught by Sigi Leonhard, and in this class, students read plays and watch their stage performances in theaters across Berlin. Students taking HIST 248 explore the history from the contemporary Bundesrepublik Deutschland to the far ancient ages through seminars and site visits with David Tompkins. Students also have the option to choose GERM 175/275, an independent study project on a topic of their own in English or German respectively. Each student is taking one German language class plus two of the other options.
David’s class last thursday explored Berlin’s beautiful sights including Potsdamer Platz, parts of the Wall, der Berliner Dom, die Bundestag and much more! We reflected on the nation’s development since East and West Berlin reunified as well as the upcoming election. Erica Helegard for picture credits.
